Call for Special Sessions Papers

Special Sessions supplement the regular program of European Wireless 2021. They are intended to provide a sample of emerging topics state-of-the-art and highlight important research directions in a field of special interest to conference participants.

The aim of the Special Sessions is to emphasize emerging topics not specifically covered in the conference main track. Special Sessions should highlight current topics related to scientific, technical and business issues in wireless communications and networking. All accepted special session papers will appear on IEEExplore database.

European Wireless 2021 opens a call for papers for the following special sessions:

Special Session on Tactile Internet (Organizers: Frank Fitzek, Ercan Altinsoy, Eckehard Steinbach, Thorsten Strufe, Meryem Simsek)

This special session targets the main research questions for the Tactile Internet such as low latency and reliable communication networks, haptic codecs, human based multimodal feedback strategies, as well as sensors and actuators. Besides paper submissions the special session encourage researchers to submit demonstrator works to show case Tactile Internet applications

Special Session on Future trends for standardization and design of vehicular networks (Organizers: Michele Zorzi, Marco Giordani, Michele Polese)

The potential of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) will be unleashed through wireless communications to and from roadside infrastructures and among vehicles, a concept that is usually referred to as Vehicle-to-Network (V2X) connectivity. For this use case, it is important to design, develop, implement, and study new technological solutions that will efficiently support future vehicular services and overcome the limitation of existing standards. Specifically, this special track encourages submissions with a focus on current standardization efforts, emerging technology enablers, channel models, physical layer, beam and/or mobility management, resource allocation, network and transport layer schemes for next-generation V2X.

Special Session on Wireless communication with UAVs (Organizers: Christian Bettstetter, Aymen Fakhreddine, Sofie Pollin, Evgenii Vinogradov)

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-enabled solutions are becoming very popular. UAVs (or drones) are attractive owing to their flexibility and potential cost-efficiency in comparison with conventional aircraft. Drones are perceived as game changers and development enablers since they may be used to deploy and optimize the network to improve its coverage, build routes and fix network partition to ensure the best communication performance, reduce energy consumption, and dynamically respond to detected network problems. The benefits are limited only by imagination. This special session welcomes contributions dealing with all facets of wireless communication with drones, including channel modeling, integration into cellular networks (4G, 5G, and b5G), system aspects, theoretical studies, algorithm and protocol design, as well as requirements, constraints, and regulations. We are particularly looking for papers reporting on experimental results of deployed systems, summaries of challenges or advancements, measurements, and innovative applications. The primary focus of this session will be on civilian applications of drones.
